Wave-Buoy Validation – 0 to 3 Day Forecast

Here we examine the set of the WAVEWATCH III  wave height forecasts from 0 to 3 days out (green) compared to the measured significant wave heights from the NDBC buoy (black).  For this period of time the model consistently underestimated the April 12th peak.  Nevertheless this is classified as an excellent forecast, as more than 90% of the wave height forecasts were within a foot of the actual buoy height.
